Stowmarket High School delivers Religious Education (RE) in line with the national curriculum. We recognise the education value of Religious Education in the school curriculum and every student in Years 7-10 has 1 dedicated RE lesson a fortnight. Students in Years 11 and 13 will be given opportunities during the year to focus their studies on Religious Education. Stowmarket High School recognises the excellent contribution RE makes to the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development across the school.
Our RE curriculum recognises that the religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian, whilst taking account of the teaching and practices of the other principal religions represented in Great Britain.
Please view the spreadsheet link which can be found below, to see the RE curriculum which will be studied by Years 7-10 at Stowmarket High School from September 2020 –August 2021.
Right of withdrawal:
Parents (or students who are over 18) have the right to withdraw their children either partly or wholly from RE. In addition, teachers have the right not to teach the subject. Our approach to RE, however, has been constructed in the hope that parents and teachers will rarely, if ever, wish to exercise their right of withdrawal.
