PSHE/RSE

PSHE

PSHE (Personal, Social and Health education) helps students to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. From making responsible decisions about alcohol to succeeding in their first job, PSHE helps students to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up.

PSHE helps children and young people to achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their ability to learn, such as anxiety and unhealthy relationships. PSHE also helps students to develop skills and aptitudes — like teamwork, communication, and resilience — that are crucial to navigating the challenges and opportunities of the modern world and are increasingly valued by employers.

RSE

Our RSE curriculum recognises that the religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian, whilst taking account of the teaching and practices of the other principal religions represented in Great Britain.

Students have 1 RSE lesson a fortnight in Years 7-10, these lessons aim to:

  • Develop students knowledge of the six major religions, developing their awareness and understanding of the religious belief and practice, their traditions and challenges.
  • Encourage students to discuss challenging questions and develop respect and sensitivity to others
  • Prepare students for life in Britain, giving them a sense of identity, purpose and belonging
  • Connect their learning to world events, students are challenged to critically evaluate issues.

Right of withdrawal:

Parents (or students who are over 18) have the right to withdraw their children either partly or wholly from RE. In addition, teachers have the right not to teach the subject. Our approach to RE, however, has been constructed in the hope that parents and teachers will rarely, if ever, wish to exercise their right of withdrawal.
