Open Evening
Stowmarket High Open Evenings
With Covid concerns at the forefront of my mind, I have decided to change the plans for Open Evening this year. I had intended to run a traditional evening on the 5th October, but the level of expectation around the event has made me question the rationale behind having so many people in the building at one point. Last year I attempted a virtual Open Evening, and this did not work as well as I had hoped, so myself and my team have come up with a third way!
Quite simply, we are going to run a series of Open Events, targeted at specific Primary Schools, thus reducing the numbers of visitors at any one event.
The evenings will all start at 5.30 pm, with a Headteacher address or a tour of the school, which will then swap over at 6.15 pm. Not all staff will be in the school or many students unfortunately, as I cannot expect my staff to be attending six different events, but there will be staff from each faculty area at each evening, plus we will have electronic resources and information available for every guest.
The dates are as follows:
Monday 4th October | Abbot’s Hall, Woolpit, Norton EVC |
Tuesday 5th October | Combs Ford, Trinity CEVAP, Ringshall & Rattlesden C of E |
Wednesday 6th October | Cedars Park, Chilton, Freeman |
Monday 11th October | Bosmere, Elmswell, Crawford |
Tuesday 12th October | Wood Ley, Gt. Finborough |
Wednesday 13th October | SEND Students Meeting Mrs Orton |
We are holding a separate evening for SEND students on Wednesday 13th October (who are obviously welcome to attend the larger event as well)
Could we please ask all parents to take a lateral flow test before the event and not to attend if you are displaying any Covid symptoms. Facemasks can be worn and we will be completing a risk assessment prior to the evening.
I hope that despite being a slimmed down version of our traditional Open Evening, the fact that less people are in the building will actually give you a greater sense of Covid security but also easier access to ask the questions you have about life at Stowmarket High School.

I look forward to seeing you on your allotted evening.
Kind regards
Mr Lee-Allan

Year 6 Virtual Open Evening Promotional Video
We are incredibly proud of our school and community. Whilst we love sharing our school with prospective students and their families, at present in light of COVID-19 restrictions, we have assessed the specific circumstances of our school and do not feel that we can offer tours or events in school at this time. Therefore, we have produced a virtual Year 6 Open Evening for September 2021 prospective students. Please follow this link to watch our promotional video:

We have produced a welcome video featuring some of our current Year 7 students giving you an insight to their experiences at Stowmarket High School.
