Equality Objectives

Stowmarket High School Equality Objectives Statement 2021-2022 

Stowmarket High School welcomes our duties under the Equality Act 2010 and aims to meet its equality obligations by having due regard to the need to: 

  1. Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act 2010 
  2. Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it 
  3. Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not 

Our school’s equality objectives should be read in conjunction with the Disability Equality Policy

Legislation identifies 9 protected characteristics:

  5. pregnancy and maternity

Legislation and guidance 

This document meets the requirements under the following legislation: 

  • The Equality Act 2010, which introduced the public sector equality duty and protects people from discrimination 
  • The Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011, which require schools to publish information to demonstrate how they are complying with the public sector equality duty and to publish equality objectives 
  • The school’s Equality and Diversity Charter further outlines the school’s charter policy regarding equality.

Inclusion and equality of opportunity are central to the Personal Development strand of our school, incorporating an inclusive culture across the whole school.  Through compliance with the Equality duty, we ensure every student has access to all areas of life.
