Duke of Edinburgh
Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is now well established and thriving at Stowmarket High School, with many students undertaking the Bronze and Silver awards. Typically, Year 10 students start with the Bronze award and then go on to do Silver in Year 11.
Bronze students undertake a training morning in November, followed by a practice expedition in early May and the qualifying expedition in June.
Silver students spend part of their Easter holiday completing their practice expedition in Norfolk and then have their qualifying expedition in July in the Peak District.
Bronze students meet once a fortnight to learn camp craft, first aid and navigation skills, whilst Silver students meet far less regularly, as they have already completed the Bronze award and therefore have most of the skills required.
This Year’s expeditions are scheduled for: –
